John Sterling, theatrical Yankees broadcaster known for enduring home run calls, dies at 87
John Sterling, the renowned New York Yankees radio broadcaster celebrated for his distinctive home run calls, passed away at the age of 87, as confirmed by the team and WFAN radio on Monday. After undergoing heart bypass surgery earlier this winter, Sterling died in a New Jersey hospital. Over his illustrious career, he called 5,631 games, including 5,420 regular season and 211 postseason games, and was known for his remarkable streak of 5,060 consecutive broadcasts from September 1989 to July 2019.
